When should I get my existing windows replaced?

If you’re unsure about when is the right time to replace your home’s existing windows, there are a few tell-tale signs to look out for. Warped or worn-out frames is definitely the most common because they are both visible giveaways. Equally, though, if you find that your windows suffer from an increased build-up of condensation or are frequently letting in cold draughts to an otherwise warm home, then it’s probably time to upgrade to new uPVC or aluminium window frames.

What different styles of window are available?

The most popular type of window in the UK is what’s called a casement window. These are simple simple-functioning and open outwards on a hinge.
Alternatively, vertical sliding sash windows are ideal for properties that are older or more historical in age, featuring a sash that can be slid vertically upwards.
Then there is a tilt & turn
style of window, which work as a modern design that allows for easy and quick cleaning (most suitable for higher-up apartments).
Finally, bay and bow windows protrude slightly from the property, offering a slight amount of more living space inside. There’s literally a window style to suit every occasion.

uPVC or aluminium – Which window material is better?

Unfortunately there is no right answer in the ongoing debate between uPVC vs. aluminium. Both window materials have their benefits depending on the needs of the homeowner. uPVC, for instance, is the most cost-effective, flexible, and maintenance-free window material available on the market, able to be fashioned into any design. Aluminium windows, meanwhile, offer incredible strength, utilising thermal break technology to keep homes energy efficient while being able to hold greater amounts of glazing and a sleeker appearance.

Are double- or triple-glazed windows worth it?

Most windows installed these days come double glazed as standard, simply because it’s the best way to retain heat and deliver the optimal levels of energy efficiency. Single-glazed windows don’t meet modern accreditation and building regulation standards for either of these, hence why they’re not even up for consideration.
So, simply put, double-glazed windows are absolutely worth it because they’re designed to be. Triple-glazed windows offer even higher levels of heat retention and acoustic insulation, particularly for UK homeowners living in especially cold or loud areas.

What colours can windows be installed in?

A great sense of style is important for any UK home. That’s why windows of any shape or material can be installed in a range of different colours and effects. To name a few, classic colours like Chartwell Green, White, Cream, and Black are some of the most popular. However, if you live in a classic home and want to maintain the traditional aesthetic, other available colours include Rosewood, Irish Oak, and Golden Oak.

How long do replacement windows tend to last?

The average lifespan of windows is dependant on whether you opt to have aluminium or uPVC installed. That said, it sits somewhere in the range of between 15 and 30 years. In this time any standard double-glazed window should continue providing a good level of energy efficiency, thermal retention, and security. What’s more, all windows installed by Emereo come with a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee for absolute peace of mind.

Can new windows improve a home’s energy efficiency?

Yes. If it’s been a while since you had your home’s windows replaced (or if you’ve never had them replaced) then believe us when we say that window designs have advanced greatly in the past 15 years or so.
Double-glazed windows are the absolute minimum when it comes to energy efficiency, but other factors such as multi-chambered frames and air-tight seals improve it more so. Combined with a good quality uPVC or aluminium profile, windows can achieve an A+ rating – the maximum score for top-rated energy efficiency.

How can I make my windows more secure?

Homeowners wanting to reduce the risk of having their windows broken into can incorporate a range of different security furniture options. This can be as standard as multi-point locks, triple-glazed panes, all the way up to sash jammers. All these mentioned extras will render your newly installed windows more secure, without risk of compromising style.

Nothing pleases us more than happy customers. So, here are just a few reasons why we remain the first choice for savvy homeowners, trade installers, and builders in Huddersfield and Yorkshire.

We are delighted with our new windows and doors. The lads from Emereo were punctual, polite and efficient.  The work took two days to complete and the Emereo staff left our house clean and tidy both days. We are so impressed with the blinds in our french windows. They are so neat and unobtrusive, whilst giving us the privacy we require.

We have already noticed a difference to the warmth in the house and a distinct lack of draughts that we experience with our old windows and doors.

I would not hesitate to recommend Emereo to friends and family.  Andy runs a great company with well trained staff and high standards from start to finish.  I cannot thank them enough.

Highly recommend. Efficient, excellent workmanship, clean up after themselves. No decorating required afterwards. Finished mine in a day. Brilliant job – thankyou.

I love my new doors thank you. The lads have done a great job.

The white interior of the inner door and the choice I made for the glass with your help makes a huge difference to the light coming in. It’s really lovely thank you.

It’s also great having the same key for both doors.

Thanks for all your help Andy and I will definitely recommend you to friends and family. Very friendly and supportive – great customer service
